Content marketing is an art, we didn’t just get to where we are today on intuition. While we like to consider ourselves as having natural entrepreneurial genes, we still had to do a lot of learning along the way to become good content marketers.
One of our favourite ways of learning is to read. We love to hear from other experts in the fields that we deal with in our business. This could be reading blog posts daily or downloading e-books. You do need to limit how much you read each day though, otherwise you can just end up drowning in the noise.
That said, below is a list that we challenge you to work your way through over the next few weeks or so. If you are serious about becoming an expert at content marketing then these are must read e-books. Whilst there are many great resources out there to help you learn, these are our top ones.
The 7 1/2 Deadly Sins of Content Marketing
The deadly sins of content marketing are ones that we constantly need to remind ourselves of. We have found that it is also a similar pattern for others in the industry who we have worked with. If you forget the basics, you will find that your strategy begins to crumble. Think of the e-book as a refresher course on the things that we all do, but shouldn’t!
For us, the biggest highlights of the book are:
#1 – We make it about us, but it needs to be about the customer
#4 – Stop forgetting about the 3 R’s: Repurpose, Reuse and Recycle content!
Showing Real ROI For Your Content Marketing
You will find a great deal of practical advice in this e-book that comes from real brands who do a lot of content marketing as part of their online strategy. These brands include large names such as Kraft Foods and Dell Computers. You will also find solid advice given from guys such as Andrew Davis and Michael Brenner.
One element of advice that is crucial in this industry is to find concrete, creative ways to apply content marketing to your own strategy. It is never just plug and play. Here you will be shown real world examples for learning how to do that well.
The Beginner’s Guide to SEO
Moz is one of the best places to learn about search engine optimisation if you are a beginner. In fact, we once created a marketing event here in Thailand and had Rand Fishkin (The Wizard of Moz) present a Q&A session to the audience via the big screen.
Moz is a valuable resource on many different topics, which as a content marketer, you really need to know. If you can understand the basics, it will really help you out with your blog and getting your posts visible in the search engines.
100 Days of Growth
This e-book contains top strategies that leaders in the content marketing niche practice every day.
Whether you are a beginner or have been in the game a number of years, this book will help you by setting a practical model for diversifying the way that you grow your audience. This book is guaranteed to lend you some helpful tips in your content marketing journey.
A Practical Guide to Killer Marketing Content
Hubspot is the leader in Marketing Automation and has also turned out to be a great resource for content marketers. This e-book is really great and touches on a point that you will notice us continually mentioning in the content that we produce (know your audience!). It serves as a very helpful guide that you can constantly return to as and when you need it.
How to Create a Well-Oiled Content Marketing Machine
It can be extremely difficult to create a strategy that you can really keep to every month. What we do here at DSA is try to stay many weeks ahead of schedule with our content. This doesn’t mean that we are coasting though.
It takes a lot of hard work to stay on top of your content strategy, but this guide will help you and give you practical ways to create schedules which last long term.
4 Steps to Content Marketing Enlightenment
What we like most about this eBook is that it is very goal-minded and business like. What this means is that it really helps you to think about each and every post you write from a business perspective.
While we like to try and always be helpful in our content, it is also important that what we write is helpful for the DSA brand. If we want to build an image of ourselves, then there will be subjects that we can avoid.
The words you write matter and this eBook is a great reminder of the business significance of this statement.
50 Shades of Growth
If you are an e-commerce business, you will want to check out the 50 Shades of Growth, an eBook by LemonStand. This eBook contains 50 irresistible e-commerce growth experiments from some of the top experts in the industry. Each of the hacks in the books has a step by step instruction which can be implemented very quickly without the need of too many resources.
